U.S. Unemployment rate hit 6.3% in January 2021 – the first decrease in two months

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics recently released their January 2021 Jobs Report, with some encouraging news for the unemployment rate.Highlights include:

  • Unemployment rate fell from 6.7% to 3% in January – this defied economists’ expectations, marking the first decrease in two months.
  • U.S. employers added 49,000 jobs in January – slightly below expectations.
  • Unemployment rate is at 4% for college-degreed workers (ages 25 years and older), a slight uptick from 3.8% in December. This group continues to be one of the high-demand candidate groups.
  • Unemployment rate for those with some college or Associates degree is 6.2%.
